ANNOUNCEMENT OF A SCHOLARSHIP

The Department of Communication Networks in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the FernUniversität in Hagen announces a PhD scholarship to support its research in the area of text mining, decentralized systems, and WWW3.

Eligible applicants and scope of the scholarship

All holders of a master's degree in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering or an equivalent subject recognized in Germany are eligible to apply. Proof of enrollment as a doctoral student at the FernUniversität must be provided no later than one month after the start of funding.

Extensive basic knowledge in distributed systems, programming skills in Java and/or Python, and a deep interest in natural language information processing methods are required.

The stipend is 1100€ per month and will be awarded for a period of 2 years, with an extension of one additional year upon successful work on the dissertation project, so far.

Eligibility criteria

A committee chaired by the head of the Department of Communication Networks awards the scholarship according to the following criteria:

• Scientific quality, originality, and topic relevance of previous work.

• Convincing presentation of the applicant's motivation

• Interest in completing a doctorate in a given topic

• Above-average examination results in completed university studies

• Enrollment as a doctoral student at the FernUniversität

(proof until 1 month after start of funding)

• Acceptance of a monthly reporting requirement in the research seminars of the department

• Consideration of equal opportunities for men and women

• Economic efficiency

Deadlines

Application deadline: by April 30th, 2022

Funding start date: before Oct. 30, 2022.

A later start date is only possible in justified exceptional cases.
